Leadership Opportunities

A vital part of the Global Citizens Program is being a leader within the program and our community. I have always been able to partake in leadership roles through a young age whether I was doing Destination Imagination or in church. I have loved every moment that I have been given where I could lead and help others reach similar goals.

BEST BUDDIES

I have done Best Buddies all throughout High School and have loved being able to connect with all the Buddies and the peers within the group. During my sophomore year, I was able to be a Friendship coordinator and was able to connect with my buddy that year while helping others connect as well. Now in my senior year I have the opportunity to take a bigger leadership role as the Vice President of the club and to create closer connections to everyone in the club.

LEADERSHIP IN CHURCH

At my summer camp, after your fourth year you become a Youth Camp Leader, or YCL, and you lead a group of girls in another year. This summer I have been given the chance to be a lead YCL and to help these girls have the best week of their summer and to feel loved and not forgotten. Last year I was a YCL as well and helped each girl the best I could and left creating many new friends that looked up to me as a leader and friend.

Class Leadership

Within our church, there is a strong emphasis on being a leader and helping those within your class. Classes are split between your age starting after twelve years old. For my Young Women's class, I have had the opportunity to be the president and first councilor for many years. These leadership roles helped me to create connections and make sure everyone felt loved.

TRANSLATING IN FRENCH AT CHURCH

Our church recently had a family moved in that could only speak and read in French. Since I had taken French and could speak with confidence, I translated what was spoken and even when they weren't in attendance they would be able to read what was said. In doing so I created a connection with the multiple French speaking families from Haiti and learn more about them and their culture while also representing my ward and religion.

LEADERSHIP IN VOLLEYBALL

The fall of junior year, I was able to take on a leadership role within the program and to help teach the Freshman team. After my practice I would stay and help teach the freshman team many important skills and mindsets that helped them succeed. As the season progressed, I grew close to these players and was able to help them in school and life. I continued this role during the fall season of my senior year where I also met my future mentee, Jax. It was during that season where I took a more active role in leading practices and coaching during games. This has helped me become a better leader as I learned how to lead strong young women in sports and in life.

School Volleyball
Club Volleyball

On my club teams for volleyball, I have always taken a leadership role and this year was no exception. This year I set up gift swaps, sent schedules, and helped make sure everyone was okay during tournaments and practices. This ability to lead everyone helped bring the team closer and helped me become a better teammate and friend.

LEADERSHIP IN GLOBAL CITIZENS

In my senior year, I had two mentors that I was able to help and guide through their journey in Global Citizens. I helped mentor a freshman, Jax, and a sophomore, Kaavya. Although they didn't need much help throughout the year, I was able to be a valuable resource to them.
